I bought this bike rack from Dick's Sporting Goods at about 3 months ago. I liked it better than the Bell or Schwinn brands because of the design with the clamp. But alas that is where the problem lies with this particular model.

The clamps have vertical hinges, as in the "bolts" are inserted vertically and the clamp will clasp onto vertical fixtures. Now here's where the problem truly lies: the bolts are not reliable vs heavy weight! I've strapped on my laptop (some 12-15lbs), 2 80 sheet notebooks, and 2 small text books (about 3lbs each) and that apparently is far too much weight for the sheer malleable-ness of the bolts! The bolts snapped at the top end and the rack was basically hanging by the tight fitting of the hinges.

I could probably salvage this bike rack by replacing the bolts with some stronger bolts from Home Depot, but I certainly will NEVER buy another Avenir product or a bike rack of this design. It is a lie to say the weight limit is ~20lbs when it clearly can not handle that over a course of three months from brand new.
